Introduction

Attila Aszódi is a professor of the Institute of Nuclear Techniques of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and as a Government Commissioner responsible for the maintenance of the capacity of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. After the incident in the Paks NPP in 2003 he worked as Ministerial Commissioner at Paks until June 2004. After the Fukushima accident he participated in the risk and safety assessment (called „stress-test”) of the European nuclear power plants as an expert of the European Commission. Between 1999 and 2014 (with a one-year interruption) he was head of the Training Reactor of the University. He was the director of our Institute from 2004 until 2014, and the leader of the termohydraulics and reactor safety research groups. He often shares his thought in energy policy and energy related issues. Besides his educational activities he participates in public events and has media appearances in order to facilitate the development of a sustainable energy system and strengthen the public acceptance of nuclear energy. He is the father of three children, two girls and a boy, and in his remaining free time he likes to take photographs.
